Changed my twitter user name to jantallent

Have no idea why, habit I guess, from having the initials t-d with jantd as a user name for ten years but I keep signing up with that one for new things when I need to use MY name and get re-established AS Jan Tallent. So I finally remembered to change it over in twitter and hey, relief, it worked, lol

Got to keep now 9 week old Brayden for 8 hours yesterday! He is so darling now, almost doubled in weight, is really active and responsive and he has developed the look that suckers Grandma in, you know? The one where he looks directly into my eyes and grins so big his smile hits his ears? I am rather large to fit wrapped around his little finger as the saying goes but hey, it is not my fault- Princess Madison trained me and now Prince Brayden gets the experienced Granny!

My own baby girl, Shannon, passed her driver's test today so now is a duly licensed
Missouri driver, eek! She turned SIXTEEN on Wednesday, boohoo, she is, after all, MY baby!

For an extra added treat for her birthday, her biological father who has not seen her or ever TRIED to for over 11 years finally called and wanted to see her. So Shannon and I met him part-way ( home is our little safe haven so it was going to be away from here! ) and we made him come 3/4 of the way and we went the rest.

Trying to get some work done today in between updating my twitter, going to a great webinar, etc.

As the world churns

Today it is a wonderful 86 degrees here in mid-MO, which probably only feels so great because of the previous few days of triple digits. Yesterday we hit 107 at 4pm and then storms came in which dropped the temps down to 72 or so in three hours BUT with hours of lightning, thunder, rains and a power outage of almost an hour for the grid surrounding my house. No net work from 5pm on and there was lightning and storms all night long.

This morning I awoke to terrific 70-ish temps AND the realization that my brand new roof, replaced by funds totally raised by my emergency firesale for this purpose, was damaged AGAIN from the storms AND I have leaks in my kitchen again! It seriously seems to never, ever stop.

My ex, George, who is going to be back on my software team with Sharon and I and doing tech support on the list management and internet business management software he made for me to use and sell, just let me know that his mother is in dire need of prayers and best wishes due to cancer and tests she is undergoing, so if you DO pray, please remember Beverly in your prayers and if you do NOT, please send her some positive thoughts.

I got to take my now NINE week old grandson, Brayden, to see my Mom, his great-grandmother on Saturday and it was a great visit. He is not only MY first grandson but is also HER first great grandson. I had not seen him for two weeks, one week HE was sick and the next I had a terrible cold and would not go around him and the little bugger had gained about TWO POUNDS in between visits! He eats WELL, to say the least, lol.

My baby girl, Shannon, is SIXTEEN years old today! Where does the time go? My oldest will be 27 in November and their brother will be 21 in January. These events bother me a whole lot more than my turning 54 did, lol.

I am still looking for editing and / or proof reading jobs, if you read this and need this service or know anyone who does, please send me an email at jantallent@charter.net and I will get right on it.

Car is down, temps are UP!

Well, as usual, every time I am just ABOUT to catch up, a bit, something else falls apart - this time it is my beloved now five year old car. Almost got it paid off and wham! first the tires, then the battery and now the alternator! Good thing I have the 100,000 miles warranty and only have right under 70,000 miles on the car so the price of the part and labor will only be about half with the deductible. Just waiting for the dealer to get back a loaner so I will have a vehicle for the usual week or more they take to order and install the part I need.

I can drive it once it gets started so do anything I need to do around town whenever I can get out but cannot use the wonderful AC and it is humid by 8am and it is only the end of July so we have at best another month and a half or so of hot and humid weather.

We hit triple digits two days already this month and August usually gets and stays there, eek!

Gas prices here have gone down at least a dime, sad when $3.80 per gallon is something to brag about. Tourism is way down this year, worse than the past two years which pretty much put my brick and mortar store out of business. Even living in the middle of a tourist town, if visitors cannot afford to shop, seems all of us here except for the camp grounds suffer.

Grandson, Brayden is SIX weeks old today! And growing like the proverbial weed.
Have not been able to have my monthly visit with Princess Madison and now, at the end of the month and no reliable vehicle, probably will not be able to get her until the promised last week of August.

My own baby girl turns 16 in two weeks and will be getting her driver's license. I am pretty sure she will pass her test, I have been letting her do a lot of practicing while my car was running well and she is a good driver, though a little cocky and a tad careless if I do not keep on her.

Twitter lost most of our contacts for up to 48 hours but seems to be getting straightened out now. I still do not have a few of my followers back but strangely ended up following a few I did not know of before, lol. By re-following those I knew I had been following, I also checked out who they were talking to and added a few good new contacts as I was weeding through those added to my list.

Guess that is it, was feeling a tad chatty today!

Teaching this old dog new tricks, lol

I guess I was the net's last hold out on using Netscape, had used it for over 9 years for both mail and web access and had to be forced by the lack of support to try the others that have come out. Finally found a mail client ( mozilla thunderbird ) and a browser ( mozilla firefox ) that work out perfectly, imported ALL of my settings for both, unlike most that claimed to and did NOT, and now am kicking myself for fighting the switch for so long.

It got to the point where I had to reboot my pc three or four times to even get Netscape mail to open and the browser crashed one out of five sites I tried to go to. Whew! What a relief to just boot up and WORK!

:-)
